Uganda’s National beach soccer team the Sand Cranes have a foot set in the semi-finals of the COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship after a 9-2 victory over Mauritius in their second group game on Monday at the Beach Arena in Durban, South Africa.
Newly appointed Head Coach Angelo Schrinzi however doesn’t seem content with yesterday’s win after he remarked that Mauritius is an inexperienced side and there are stronger opponents to pass like Egypt.
“Our Objective was to go to the semi-finals and we played well but we can improve all the time. Now we go back to analyze and see how the next match will be. The next team will be more experienced because that is what Mauritius lacked though they also played well.” Angelo said in a post-match interview.
Angelo was appointed Head coach this month to replace Salim Jamal Muwonge and this will be his second victory in the two games he has been in charge.
Ambrose Kigozi was once again named player of the match after coming from the bench to score a hat trick. He also bagged the same accolade in their 2-4 triumph over Tanzania yesterday.
Also appearing on the score sheet against Mauritius was Ashraf Apuuli who returned a brace, Isma Kawawulo, Brian Nkuubi, Baker Lukooya, and Joshua Lubwama.
The Cranes are now fully through to the semis following Tanzania’s failure to win against Egypt, a result that could have blurred Uganda’s progress.
The Cranes play Egypt tomorrow -Wednesday- in their final group game.
From this Championship, Uganda will head into the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations next month in Maputo, Mozambique.
