The cricket cranes lost their opening game today against Jersey in the ICC challenge League B tournament.
The Jer lions beat hosts Uganda by 63 runs to earn their first win in round two of the tournament.
Jersey batted first as Uganda’s brilliant bowlers in Cosmas Kyewuta, Kumar Nakrani and Juma Miyagi limited them to only 256 runs 6 out in 50 overs.
A score that one would think could have been easy for Uganda to close in had they tightened their grip on the bat.
Uganda fetched 193 runs all out from 264 balls, owing to a disappointing display from its batsmen.
Brian Masaba the cricket cranes captain said, “…we go back to strategise, the boys will have a rest tomorrow and come back on Monday again. Hopefully we can pick up a win.”
The captain further noted that he doesn’t regret choosing to bowl first after his side won the toss and he is sure his boys will execute plans better on Monday.
However, not all went south for the host cricketers as both Simon Ssesazzi and Ronak Patel stood out with 50 and 64 runs respectively.
Jersey’s Nick Greenwood was named Man of the match for his 80 runs in 93 balls. His attempt to clock a century was later denied life through a cool catch from century record holder Kenneth Waiswa who sent Nick off with honour.
This will go down as the first time Uganda has lost to Jersey in a ICC match and the win earns them (Jersey) two points to boost their pursuit of qualifying for the cricket world cup.
Next up, Uganda will face Bermuda on Monday to try and reposition themselves while Jersey will play Kenya on Sunday at the Lugogo cricket oval in Kampala.
