Sport S – 3
Vs
OBB – 0
(25-23, 25-16, 25-14)
Sport S made light work of last season’s title holders OBB to secure a first win in the 2022/23 season as it launched at the MTN Arena Lugogo and condemn the “Coachless” side to a losing start.
This would be the second time OBB are losing to Sport S in a space of one week after they were beaten 3-0 in the NCC final last Sunday and the same result replayed last evening.
The Iganga outfit was totally outplayed in all three sets by Warren Muhangi’s side who looked to be the better team to take the day.
OBB is yet to announce a manager to replace Lawrence Yakan and Jacob Ssenoga with whom they parted ways earlier this week.
On the touchline today were Team Captain Rajabu Kimera and Ivan Ongom who clearly didn’t have a grip on the team and failed to call the shots.
Not even new signings Jonathan Tumukunde and Brian Atuhaire could contain Sport S, although the Orange Block Busters threatened a comeback in the first set from trailing six points at the back to squaring the game at 23 points and upsetting the Nsambya team.
OBB led the second set by two points but a fallback gave way for Sport S to take the lead, never to turn back. A poor court cover and a terrible first touch by the Orange boys meant Sport S could remain in charge of the third set as well.
In the previous season, OBB as debutants beat KAVC three straight in the league opener, but their first two meetings against Sport S were losses though they picked a 3-1 win against the latter on a third try at the Old Kampala Arena.
Meanwhile, from the other games, record champions Nemostars lost painfully 2-3 to Luwero’s Ndejje, while KAVC men beat Uganda Christian University 3-0 to launch the league in glory.
