Teenager sensational Frank Tayebwa beat David Oringa 6-2, 6-0 (retired) to win the Uganda Nationalk Tennis Championship and also earn a ticket to a French training Camp
“Going to France is going to give me another opportunity to improve on my game as a player I want to be a better player so that I can continue to represent Uganda in international competitions”. said Frank Tayebwa.
Tayebwa and will train alongside experienced players in France at the, Association Familiae Turkerheim Club in France.
Birungi who is also a sister to Tayebwa came top of the women’s tier after winning all her seven games in the round of robin format.
The championship, organised by Tena Tennis club attracted 16 male and 8 female players.
‘We intend to have this tournament on a regular basis to offer platform to young players here in Uganda to compete frequently’. Said Hadijja Namanda the proprietor of Tena Tennis Academy
The two months training camp will happen in the summer of 2022.
“As a government we are going to invest more money in talent identification and I believe this can be one of the tournaments we can look at,” Ambrose Tashobya the Uganda National Council of Sports Chairman said.
