UCU vs KAVC – A : 3-1 (31-29, 25-19, 15-25, 26-24)
The game of volleyball is one that requires intense skill, strategy, and stamina. In Sunday’s match between the Uganda Christian University (UCU) and KAVC, all these qualities were on display.
With both teams vying for a chance to advance to the finals of the 2022/23 Men’s Serie A final, the game was filled with high-pressure moments and thrilling action.
From powerful blocks to daring hits, the players left nothing on the court as they battled for victory. This game not only showcased the best of Ugandan volleyball but also highlighted the importance of perseverance and resilience in sports
The first set of the game saw UCU take an early lead, with Ian’s impressive performance in the center position. However, KAVC quickly fought back, showcasing their own resilience and leveling the score at 4-4. This tie only set the stage for an exciting game that would have spectators on the edge of their seats.
UCU’s errors saw KAVC take the lead at 6-2, but the Mukono-based side showed their fighting spirit to tie the game again at 6-all.
The rest of the set was an intense back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading points in a high-pressure environment. In the end, UCU held their nerve to secure the set 31-29, with KAVC’s crucial net violation proving costly.
UCU’s resilience came to the fore as they staged a comeback from conceding the first point in the second set, to grabbing the lead at 5-3. The match then turned into a high-octane battle, with both teams trading points.
Nevertheless, it was UCU who emerged victorious, thanks to the unrelenting play of Nespal Angiro, who made daring blocks and hits that left KAVC struggling to keep up.
UCU hit the crucial 20-point mark first and cruised to a 25-19 win, putting them on track for a potential three-zero sweep.
The third set saw a determined KAVC side rally back after conceding an early lead to UCU. Led by the impressive Allan Ejiet, who made a crucial 1v1 block against Nespal Angiro, KAVC managed to minimize their errors and utilize their attacking options more efficiently, opening up a commanding six-point lead.
Despite UCU’s best efforts, they were unable to overturn KAVC’s advantage, as the latter ultimately secured the set 25-15.
For what turned out to be the final set of the match, KAVC started strong with the first point and UCU quickly responded with a brilliant 1v1 block by Nespal Angiro on KAVC’s Jacob.
The teams continued to exchange points, with UCU taking the lead, but a service error by Vincent Odeke allowed KAVC to regain the advantage.
The final five points of the game were tense, with both teams fighting for the win. In the end, UCU emerged victorious with a hard-fought 26-24 win, thanks to Geoffrey Onapa’s wide strike that came as the final action of the game.
The upcoming games between KAVC and UCU will be crucial in determining which team advances to the finals of the 2022/23 Men’s Serie A.
If UCU secures a win, they will automatically advance to the finals, where they will face either Sport-S or OBB. But if KAVC wins, both teams will have to play a third game to determine who advances, making the upcoming matches high-stakes and unpredictable.
With KAVC boasting a five-time championship record and UCU eager for their first league title, both teams are expected to come out strong in the next game.
The University team has however already secured two trophies this season, – the Dr Aporu Cup and the Ndejje Open Championship – both of which they clinched by defeating Sport-S in the finals of each respective tournament.
Thanks so much for the love of volleyball in Uganda
